Five Things to Do That are More Exciting Than Listening to Political Ads

With Election Day finally approaching (thank goodness), voters are being bombarded with political advertisements from every direction. Television, radio, social media, text messages and the mailbox have become battlegrounds for candidates promising to save democracy while warning that their opponents will destroy civilization.

Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat or independent, there’s one thing most Americans can probably agree on: We’ve had enough.

So, if you’re ready to give your TV, radio and phone a much-needed break from the nonstop political ads, here are a few activities that are infinitely more exciting than enduring yet another campaign commercial:

1. Watch Paint Dry
At least there’s a visible result. Plus, the paint doesn’t accuse the wall of being a threat to democracy.

2. Read the Terms and Conditions
Those 47 pages of legal jargon for your extended car warranty or homeowner’s insurance policy suddenly seem riveting compared to hearing another candidate explain why their opponent is the most dangerous person in American history.

3. Clean Your Refrigerator
Discovering a mysterious container of leftovers from July is considerably more suspenseful than another attack ad. And unlike politicians, the mold isn’t pretending to be something it’s not.

4. Untangle the Christmas Lights
Yes, Christmas is only 56 days away. And nothing says excitement like spending three hours unraveling a tangled ball of Christmas lights that somehow managed to tie itself into 47 knots while sitting untouched in a box for 11 months.

5. And if you’re really desperate… talk to your spouse!
Fortunately, Election Day is coming up on Tuesday, meaning voters have less than a week before the political advertising circus finally packs up its tent.

Until then, guard your sanity and remember: No matter which party wins, the mute button remains America’s most reliable bipartisan solution.
