President Donald Trump gave Chinese President Xi Jinping a White House tour Thursday, complete with a little presidential humor at Joe Biden’s expense. And even the leader of communist China couldn’t keep a straight face.
While walking through the White House’s Presidential Walk of Fame, Trump stopped to show Xi the display honoring his predecessor.
Instead of Biden’s smiling face, the gold-framed portrait shows a black autopen machine holding a pen and signing Joe Biden’s name on a white sheet of paper.
Trump pointed to the picture and delivered the punchline: “This is the autopen…it’s Biden.”
Xi burst into laughter, along with others accompanying the two leaders. The exchange was captured on video released by the White House.

Trump installed the autopen portrait in September 2025 amid his criticism of Biden’s use of the mechanical signature device. Trump has questioned whether Biden personally authorized documents signed using the autopen.
It wasn’t exactly a diplomatic breakthrough, but Trump did manage to find some common ground with Xi: a good laugh at Biden’s expense.
