If you thought the idea of President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was just social media meme material, you may want to hold the laughter. The New York congresswoman is apparently keeping the White House on her vision board.
Asked Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” whether she might run for president in 2028, Ocasio-Cortez initially said she was focused on the midterms and her congressional re- election. Then came the part Republicans may want to clip and save.
“I haven’t ruled out the possibility,” she said.
AOC also refused to rule out a 2028 Senate run where she would challenge 75-year-old Senator Chuck Schumer for his seat, saying “anything is possible at this juncture.”
It certainly is when opposing Trump appears to be the only qualification necessary – especially for a party that routinely warns voters that Trump, MAGA, and the Republicans pose an existential threat to democracy.
And before dismissing her presidential bid as fantasy, consider this: a July University of New Hampshire poll of likely Democratic primary voters put Ocasio-Cortez at 22% in a hypothetical 2028 New Hampshire Democratic primary – one point ahead of Pete Buttigieg.

The 36-year-old progressive has become one of the Democratic Party’s most recognizable figures, building a national following well beyond her New York congressional district. She started out as a bartender, then became a “Squad” member in Congress, and is now openly entertaining the possibility of becoming the leader of the free world.
The good news for Republicans? AOC would still have to survive an actual presidential campaign, where the microphones never turn off and word salads have a way of becoming campaign ads. Kamala Harris already demonstrated how quickly the hype can collide with reality.
