For decades, Americans have been told that the rest of the world looks down on the United States. But with millions of international soccer fans arriving for World Cup events, many are falling in love with the very things America does best: big food, friendly people, and experiences that make absolutely no sense until you see them for yourself.
We decided late night yesterday to go to Bourbon street, so today was a late start on our way to Houston. And yeah that place was a little crazy. I honestly don’t even know how to describe it. Why are people throwing beads at each other everywhere?😭😭 pic.twitter.com/UdOpraveLf [1]

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will bring matches to nine states across the U.S., with host cities in California, Texas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Missouri, Florida, Pennsylvania, Washington, and New Jersey.
The tournament is expected to generate billions of dollars in tourism spending as fans travel between host cities for games, festivals, and related events. According to reports, visitors from Europe, South America, and beyond have been flocking not just to stadiums, but to iconic American destinations like Waffle House, Taco Bell, Buc-ee’s, and local barbecue joints.

Social media has been filled with videos of tourists marveling at endless drink options, free refills, giant portions, and restaurants that stay open at all hours.

One German fan named Freddy has gone viral documenting his travels. He even described Taco Bell as a must-see destination and treated visits to American fast-food chains with the enthusiasm many tourists reserve for famous landmarks.
We found another surreal place on our way. I know some people will say I’m too positive about everything I see, but this place was crazy. They had a shooting range in the store. pic.twitter.com/dBkEDzmRKo [8]

America may argue endlessly about politics, but there is remarkable national unity around the idea that breakfast should be available at midnight and that a gas station should be large enough to have its own zip code.
The word in America is “choice” – there’s a lot of it whether you’re standing in the middle of Walmart, Buc-ee’s or in front of a soft-drink dispenser. And most Americans take that for granted.
I can’t lie… the food in America is ridiculous.
Everyone talks about portion sizes but nobody talks enough about how GOOD everything tastes.
Even the “quick” food feels elite compared to what I’m used to in the UK. pic.twitter.com/YBliofYVs9 [12]

While headlines from our Leftist media often portray the country as divided and angry (but only under President Trump), that’s not how the country REALLY is in most places. Tourists are reporting on how welcoming American “strangers” are. That is the real America.
Whether it’s restaurant staff offering recommendations, fellow fans striking up conversations, or locals eager to explain regional food specialties, many visitors are discovering a side of America that rarely makes international news.
And, yes, food itself has become part of the adventure. Visitors accustomed to smaller portions and stricter culinary traditions are finding everything from Texas barbecue to Southern biscuits, burgers, fried chicken, and regional specialties. It’s a reminder that America remains one of the world’s most unique destinations. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s unapologetically American.
The tourists may have come for soccer. But judging by the videos flooding social media, many of them will return home talking just as much about Waffle House hash browns, giant soft drinks, and the surprisingly friendly people who served them.
For all the criticism America receives, it’s hard not to smile watching visitors discover what many Americans already know: this country is a pretty fun place to be.
