Apparently, some entertainers just discovered that Donald Trump is president and aren’t too happy about it. One of those entertainers is country music artist Martina McBride, who had been invited to perform at one of the upcoming Freedom 250 [1] concerts on the National Mall.
McBride and several other artists have reportedly backed out [2] of the upcoming Freedom concerts (slated for June 25 through July 10) after realizing the event is connected to the America 250 initiative being organized by the current administration. So McBride’s signature hit “Independence Day,” a song that has become one of the most recognizable songs in country music, will NOT be sang to celebrate our 250th birthday.
Their complaint? The cowardly artists said they believed the celebration of America’s 250th birthday was “non-partisan” and they were “misled.”
The concert is part of the Great American State Fair planned between the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. There has been no indication Trump is even scheduled to appear. The event is considered “Trump-linked” because his administration is helping organize it through the America 250 commission and related White House efforts – something that has been true from the beginning.
The only thing that makes the concerts “partisan” to these yahoos is that Trump is the sitting president. And the only thing making the whole thing “divisive” are Democrats who hate Trump. Who exactly did these idiots think would be overseeing this major federal event in Washington, D.C. during Trump’s presidency? Bill Clinton?
Martina McBride has previously performed at White House events during Democratic administrations, including a 2009 performance at the Obama White House. In 1998, she performed at the annual Ford’s Theatre Gala in Washington, D.C., an event attended by President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton and later broadcast nationally as A Gala for the President. Historical records also note that McBride performed at Christmas in Washington during the Clinton years. At the time, McBride’s participation in events associated with a sitting president did not appear to generate controversy.
But performing under the Trump presidency? That is just a BRIDGE TOO FAR for McBride and the other yahoos who have decided not to honor America’s 250th birthday – because it’s happening under President Donald J. Trump.
The real irony is that the artists claiming the event should be non-partisan are the ones turning a national birthday party into a partisan protest.
Happy 250th birthday, America. Just try not to hurt anyone’s feelings while celebrating. If this milestone was happening under a Democratic president there wouldn’t be a problem because Republicans aren’t nut jobs. But Dems, apparently, can only wave the flag when their team is holding the pole.
