In Gavin Newsom’s California, “doing hard time” comes with taxpayer-funded tablets, video chats and enough loopholes to turn death row into some kind of twisted digital rec room.
According to media reports [1], California handed out roughly 90,000 tablets to inmates as part of a multimillion-dollar “digital equity” program supposedly meant for education and communication – at a cost of about $189 million.
Yes, I said “digital equity.” I know. DEMOCRATS ARE BEYOND HELP. TRULY.
As criminals always do, they took advantage of the Democratic handouts with some condemned killers figuring out how to use the devices for porn, explicit messages and even inappropriate contact with people outside prison walls.
SHOCKER!
One inmate reportedly bragged about watching porn through video calls while another admitted prisoners “get around” the restrictions. Because of course they do. They’re criminals.
California officials pitched the program as part of a rehabilitation-focused prison system inspired by Nordic countries. Sane people, however, are asking why convicted murderers and serial predators are getting state-sponsored screen time while law- abiding taxpayers struggle to pay rent, groceries and utility bills.
Prison used to mean punishment. In Newsom’s California, it sounds like a bizarre blend of a rehab retreat and tech startup that ends up with taxpayer-funded digital playground.
