The Compassion Con: How “Moderate” Democrats Perfected the Art of Empty Promises

We’ve been trying to warn voters since the very beginning—since the inception of this program—that Democrats do not care about you. In truth, a whole herd of politicians couldn’t care less. But some of them are convinced you’ll fall for their lies forever. And why wouldn’t they? It’s been working for a very long time.

They campaign on issues that sound warm, fuzzy, and compassionate. They claim to fight for the little guy. Yet, at the end of the day, all they deliver are higher taxes, wrecked economies, and dysfunctional programs—always “in the name of progress.”

Of course, these warnings tend to fall on deaf ears among loyal Democrat voters, who continue electing politicians like Abigail Spanberger. She ran as a so-called “moderate” in Virginia’s gubernatorial race, but since winning, she’s proven herself to be anything but.

With Democrats now controlling both chambers of Virginia’s legislature and the governor’s mansion, their first order of business was predictable: more than 50 new tax proposals aimed squarely at average Virginians.

They’ve devised fresh ways to squeeze every last dollar out of the state’s economy and funnel it straight into government coffers. The proposals include new taxes on services like dog walking, gym memberships, dry cleaning, and digital goods. There’s a gas tax hike, an 11 percent tax on firearms and ammunition, and a $500 tax on firearm suppressors—all alongside a proposal to jack up the state income tax as high as 13.8 percent for some earners. That would make Virginia’s tax rate the highest in the nation, even higher than California.

One Virginia Republican lays out just how far left this Democrat trifecta has gone.

This is exactly what I mean when I say Democrats do not care about you.

He’s right, especially when you remember that Spanberger campaigned on “affordability.” And yes—we have the receipts:

None of these measures help Virginians live more affordably. Which raises the obvious question: why do they need all this new tax revenue?

Former Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin left the state with a staggering $2.7 billion surplus—and that’s after delivering $9 billion in tax relief and making record investments in education, law enforcement, and health care.

So again: why the tax grab?

Virginia Democrats say it’s for Medicaid coverage—yet another failed, dysfunctional, Democrat-created program now costing taxpayers a fortune. But there are other reasons they’re not eager to advertise. One of them is salary increases for the legislators themselves.

These lawmakers work, on average, fewer than 60 days a year, yet they want to double their pay. They also want taxpayer money to fund government “grants” that help them buy homes near the capitol—not loans, but outright giveaways.

Democrats claim it’s hard to recruit public servants because of housing costs. But the last thing anyone should want is a politician effectively bribed with housing grants to shape public policy.

It’s a mess. And President Trump shares the confusion over how politicians like Spanberger even get elected in the first place.

Of course, Democrats rely on dishonesty and old-fashioned cheating to win elections—something that seems more evident with each passing day.

Taxes aren’t the only thing rising in Virginia. Energy bills are hitting record highs too, as one concerned resident explains:

What many don’t realize is that the Democrat-led Virginia State Corporation Commission approved Dominion Energy’s rate increase in late 2025, and it kicked in last month.

So much for siding with the little guy over big corporations. Disastrous energy policies happened instead.

Spanberger has repeatedly voiced support for banning oil and gas in Virginia, backing the Virginia Clean Economy Act. That law mandates that major utilities—like Dominion Energy—generate 100 percent of their electricity from “renewable” sources.

So buckle up, Virginians. As long as Democrats remain in charge, your energy bills are only headed one direction: up.

This is what happens when ideology replaces common sense. Families are forced toward all-electric living, affordable options disappear, and people are buried under state mandates and so-called green fees. Just ask this woman in nearby Massachusetts.

We’ve had plenty of time to compare green energy scams with energy-dominant policies. It’s baffling that voters are still choosing the scams.

That’s the chaos climate alarmism brings. And this is what happens when leaders focus on putting America first.

That’s what delivering real wins for the American people looks like—in just one year.

It’s also why Democrats and their allies in the media are so desperate to demonize ICE and DHS. They need distractions from the promises made—and promises kept—coming out of Washington.

There’s still a long road ahead. Years of disastrous policies have inflicted real damage on the economy, and some of it may never be fully undone. But these are steps in the right direction.

Meanwhile, some states and cities continue racing the wrong way—most notably New York City.

After decades of Democrat leadership, the Big Apple is staring down a $10 billion budget deficit. And along comes self-described socialist Zohran Mamdani with the same tired solution: tax the rich.

Any beginner’s economics class will tell you that policies like this drive away the businesses and job creators that support a city’s economy. Mamdani denies it—but even New York’s own governor, Kathy Hochul, admits the truth.

Will they ever learn? The evidence says no.

In the end, the Democrat playbook never changes: fake compassion, endless taxes, and policies that crush families while enriching politicians.

Virginia and New York are proof—surpluses squandered, bills skyrocketing, all to satisfy a radical agenda. So consider this one more warning to voters: wake up. Trump is delivering real economic wins. It’s time to ditch the scams and put America first.
