Hey Senate Republicans: Do Your Job and Pass the SAVE Act Already

The House passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act [1] almost a year ago in April of 2025, yet it’s been stuck in limbo ever since – even though Republicans have control of the House, Senate and presidency.

That’s right – 301 days later, there has been no action in the Senate. That’s because the spineless Republicans never seem to pass anything important that we need done. BIG SURPRISE.

For those who don’t know, the SAVE Act would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections. Shocking, I know!! This would replace the “I swear I’m a citizen” checkbox that Michigan and other states have on their voter registration forms and voter identity affirmation sheets.

The latest news is that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said in an interview recently that he hasn’t decided yet about whether to bypass Senate filibuster rules in order to skirt the regular 60-vote margin required to advance legislation in the chamber. Yes, the future of our republic is in the hands of one idiot Republican who talks about election integrity but is not doing anything about it.

The Democrats, when they have power again, won’t think twice to nuke the filibuster to pack the Supreme Court, add Washington DC as a state, or pass any other of their Leftist dream legislation. The Republicans need to grow a set and get this done.

Republicans need to stop treating the filibuster like a sacred cow and get the SAVE Act passed. It’s what the people want. Even the Democrats voters.

83% of Americans agree that we should have voter ID according to a survey [2] from Pew Research. Even a majority of Democrats agree. But the progressive fossil, Democratic New York Senator Chuck Schumer, calls it “Jim Crow” [3] to scare people. Nice try, Chuckie, but we’re catching on to your racist scare tactics. Yes, Black people and women are smart enough to figure out to get the proper ID to vote.

We are at the point where we are way past being fed up. Republicans need to put the SAVE Act it to a vote and see where everyone stands. Do your job, Senator Thune. We voted for MAGA – not the same old do-nothing Republican routine.
