If there was an Olympic event for manufactured hysteria, Democrats would be standing on the podium, hand over heart, tears welling, while the national anthem plays in the background as they receive their gold medals. Their latest routine? Convincing women that a voter ID bill (SAVE America Act) means they’ll need to march down to the county clerk and rewrite their birth certificates just to cast a ballot if there is a name discrepancy. Yes, really.

It’s a con job that crazies like Michigan Democratic Rep. Hillary Scholten are selling. In reality, the legislation requires documentation linking a maiden name to a married (or otherwise changed) name. So if your birth certificate says “Jane Marie Smith” and your driver’s license says “Jane Marie Johnson,” you can provide a marriage certificate, divorce decree, court-ordered name change – or maybe even sign an affidavit confirming the prior name. The bill requires states to create a process to handle these discrepancies. In other words, it’s about proving the paper trail – not rewriting personal history. And it’s really NOT that difficult.
Meanwhile, back in Washington, Democrats are playing chicken with critical funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) because they don’t want to fund ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Newsflash: ICE has already been funded with billions of dollars through 2029 because of the Big Beautiful Bill.
What does get caught in the crossfire are other DHS agencies – TSA screeners at airports, FEMA disaster response teams, and the Secret Service. Those operations still depend heavily on annual appropriations. So while the political fight is framed as a battle over ICE, the ripple effects land elsewhere.
At some point, voters have to ask: is this Democratic incompetence or is it intentional? The voters also have to ask… are the Democrats the dumb ones or do they think the voters are?
Because if this is the bar – skim (or skip) the bill, whip up a panic, stall the funding, rinse and repeat – and if they actually believe the nonsense they’re peddling, then “Democrats Are Dumb” isn’t just a cheap shot. It starts looking like a job description.
