In a stunning display of “tough-on-crime” justice (if by tough you mean asking polite questions and then waving offenders on their way), Prince George’s County, Maryland, just proved that stabbing someone doesn’t automatically disqualify you from early release.
That’s right – Rafael Aguilar, an undocumented Honduran citizen (illegal alien) convicted of stabbing a guy in the back (second-degree assault) in April of 2025, walked out of jail after serving only 141 days of a 10-year suspended sentence, the exact time he’d already spent behind bars before his plea.
In a report [1] from the Daily Caller News Foundation, county officials claim they gave ICE about two hours to come and get the criminal before he was released. When the cavalry didn’t arrive in time, Democratic compassion (evilness) kicked in and Aguilar got his freedom back on schedule for about a week until ICE scooped him up.
ICE was not thrilled about the whole thing, blasting the county for ignoring a detainer request and endangering public safety because, apparently, a judge’s order and local “sanctuary” policies outrank common sense and protecting the public from criminals.
ICE Baltimore acting Field Office Director Vernon Liggins said in a statement on the ICE website [2], “When sanctuary jurisdictions refuse to honor ICE immigration detainers for egregious criminal illegal aliens, they are knowingly endangering the public. By releasing Aguilar instead of cooperating with federal law enforcement, local officials in Prince George’s County chose politics over public safety. These reckless policies fail the law-abiding residents who expect their communities to be kept safe. ICE will continue to step in and do the job sanctuary jurisdictions refuse to do.”
