For today’s Democrats, Border Czar Tom Homan is Public Enemy No. 1 – the face of immigration enforcement, the guy they say is single-handedly responsible for all of ICE’s supposed atrocities. Protest signs are waved, think pieces are churned out, and labels like “inhumane” and “Nazi” are plastered across social media about him on a daily basis.
But here’s the inconvenient truth that they don’t want you to know: the Obama White House gave Tom Homan an award for his immigration accomplishments during Obama’s second term in office.
Back in 2015, when enforcing immigration law wasn’t considered a moral crime, Barack Obama’s administration honored Tom Homan with a Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service – one of the federal government’s highest honors [1] for career officials. The award recognized his leadership at ICE and his effectiveness running Enforcement and Removal Operations. In other words: doing his job. Well, well.
Fast forward to today, and the Left is in full meltdown mode over President Trump enforcing deportations. Democrats aren’t just opposing border enforcement anymore – they’re actively defending and shielding illegal aliens with criminal records. That includes individuals charged with drunk driving, child molestation, domestic abuse, and drug, weapons offenses and more. Many have assaulted and killed Americans, including children. The list, unfortunately, keeps growing.
With incitement coming from the Democratic Party (who needs the votes of the illegal aliens), the anti-ICE activists are becoming more and more dangerous – and are ticked off that Homan is actually enforcing immigration law. The difference? He’s doing so under President Trump. Orange Man Bad. Their enemy.
Homan is the same guy with the same mission, operating under the same basic federal laws – only now he’s facing the added complication of the entrenched sanctuary city and state policies where they refuse to hand over illegal alien criminals to ICE. So instead ICE has to go to their homes and places of business and out in the public to find them.
The bottom line: immigration enforcement – and the guy in charge of it – is admirable when it happens quietly under a Democrat – but becomes “cruel” the second Trump is president.
So the next time Democrats screech and whine about evil Tom Homan, feel free to remind them: their guy gave him a medal.
