A Few GOP Spats and Suddenly Trump Is “Toast”

If you’ve been on X lately, you’ve probably seen the latest wish-casting: Trump loyalists are supposedly bailing, MAGA is fracturing, and the GOP needs to dump Trump before it’s too late.

The newest attempt to sell this narrative includes a Detroit News [1] opinion piece by Nolan Finley claiming Republican support for Trump is “weakening.” There are two obvious reasons the legacy media is pushing this storyline as elections approach.

First, they want MAGA to believe Trump is losing power – and they want to motivate Democrats to make it happen.

Second, they want GOP candidates to distance themselves from Trump. Translation: lose votes. Because how many MAGA voters are going to vote for a candidate who doesn’t support Trump? There’s no motivation there.

Finley bases his argument on the usual suspects: Senators Murkowski and Collins still being Murkowski and Collins, plus Sen. Rand Paul objecting to something – as he often does. None of this is new.

He also points to senators like Tillis, Hawley, and Young disagreeing with Trump over Venezuela. So what? MAGA has never demanded lockstep obedience on every issue – unlike Democrats, where wandering off the plantation is basically forbidden (ask Sen. Fetterman).

We’re also told there’s a “significant” GOP revolt over Trump floating Greenland annexation. “Significant,” apparently means the same RINOs plus a handful of others making initial objections. WHOOPIE.

Finley further argues that ICE enforcement and tariffs are turning Republicans away from Trump. That’s wishful thinking. Those are policies MAGA largely supports – and even voters who dislike Trump’s style tend to back his substance.

On X, Democrats are also insisting MAGA is abandoning Trump. I don’t see it. What I see is anger and disgust from the GOP – at the opposition to policies that would make the country safer and stronger including ICE enforcement.

Finley closes by predicting GOP politicians will distance themselves from the “chaos” of Trump’s administration. That’s clearly what he hopes will happen.

Pieces like this aren’t analysis – they are aspirations. And deep down, even the Left knows that distancing from Trump isn’t a winning strategy for the GOP – and that’s why they’re pushing it.
