Former first couple Bill and Hillary Clinton are scheduled to sit for depositions in the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. Whether they show up or not is another matter.
Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer says the Clintons have been playing calendar dodgeball for months, blowing off subpoenas like they’re telemarketers. After four months of delay, Comer has now warned [1] that if Bill doesn’t pull up on Dec. 17 and Hillary on Dec. 18, he’ll dust off the contempt of Congress playbook and use it.
Comer’s statement reads: “It has been more than four months since Bill and Hillary Clinton were subpoenaed to sit for depositions related to our investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s horrific crimes. Throughout that time, the former President and former Secretary of State have delayed, obstructed, and largely ignored the Committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony. If the Clintons fail to appear for their depositions next week or schedule a date for early January, the Oversight Committee will begin contempt of Congress proceedings to hold them accountable.”
Dems have been shouting “Epstein! Epstein! Epstein!” for months but they want him tied to Donald Trump, not their own party politicians.
Whether the Clintons will actually testify or trigger contempt proceedings is the kind of Washington cliffhanger Americans have learned to watch with low expectations and cynicism. If they show up, it will be billed as transparency. If they don’t, it will be framed as scheduling conflicts, misunderstood emails, or the sudden discovery of very important charity work.
