California Democrats have apparently decided the solution to federal ICE raids and police presence isn’t better coordination or oversight – it’s ensuring officers aren’t able to hide their identities from the evil, violent, doxxing leftists who want to find out who they are.
Enter Senate Bill 627, cheerily dubbed the “No Secret Police Act” by Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Sen. Jesse Arreguín (D-Berkeley). This is a proposal mandating that local, state and federal law enforcement show their faces – on penalty of misdemeanor charges. The Dems also want them to have their name or other identifier on their uniform.
According to the Police1 website, exempt in the legislation are the National Guard or other troops, SWAT teams or officers responding to natural disasters.
There are no exceptions for ICE agents in disguise or federal officers arriving in unmarked vans – which is who the Democrats REALLY want to uncover so that they can scare them off from arresting illegal aliens.
According to the Dems, it’s all about “transparency” and “accountability.” Yeah right. If you remember back to the BLM/Antifa riots of 2020, they had no problem with their leftist lunatic vandals, arsonists and murders being masked as they committed chaos and mayhem across Democratic-run cities.
Legal experts are out reminding these California idiots that state law doesn’t actually compel federal agents to parade around in daylight – even though Wiener and Arreguín apparently think sanctuary city rulings magically give their cities dominion over Uncle Sam. Sounds like another lawsuit to me if the legislation goes through.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons says agents need masks to protect against death threats and online harassment. He said at a news conference in Boston earlier in June, “I’m sorry if people are offended by them wearing masks, but I’m not going to let my officers and agents go out there and put their lives on the line, their family on the line because people don’t like what immigration enforcement is.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has branded the bill “despicable,” warning of ensuing “surge(s) in assaults of ICE officers.”
DHS has also pledged to “prosecute those who dox ICE agents to the fullest extent of the law.”
Let’s call this what it is: California Dems starring in a transparency farce aimed to make life less safe for ICE officers. Instead of tackling gun violence, immigration bloat, or real accountability for law enforcement, they’re trying to scare away ICE agents from doing their job. That’s California – where the only thing more endangered than a plastic straw is a law enforcement officer’s anonymity.
