In a move that redefines “fiscal conservatism” and is probably one of President Trump’s better ideas, the Orange Menace has unveiled a novel approach to immigration enforcement: paying illegal aliens $1,000 to voluntarily leave the United States.
Dubbed a self-deportation “stipend,” this initiative is facilitated through the CBP Home app, a rebranded version of the Biden-era CBP One, now repurposed to assist in arranging departures instead of arrivals.
Homeland Security Secretary champions the program as a “dignified” way to leave the country (instead of via handcuffs).
According to Just the News, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said about the new program, “If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest. DHS is now offering illegal aliens financial travel assistance and a stipend to return to their home country through the CBP Home App. This is the safest option for our law enforcement, aliens and is a 70% savings for US taxpayers. Download the CBP Home App TODAY and self-deport.”
The United States, however, will probably save even more than DHS says. President Trump’s top policy and homeland security adviser, Stephen Miller, said on X Monday that the “savings are as much as $1 million per illegal alien family given the long-term costs of free welfare and public support.”
At this rate, deportation might become the hottest gig economy job on the market.
