Just when you thought political discourse couldn’t get any more absurd, former FBI Director James Comey decided to take a leisurely beach stroll (or so he says) and shared a photo of seashells that he just happened to see (or so he says) – shells that were arranged to read “8647” which he posted on Instagram on May 15th.

Comey captioned the pic: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”

Even your average Joe (or Jane) knows what “86” means: to get rid of something. And “47”? That’s President Trump. James Comey absolutely knew what the shell formation meant, yet after getting roasted online and quietly deleting his post, he claimed he had no idea what the numbers meant and insisted he opposes violence. Sure, Jim. So tell us – if that’s true, what exactly was so “cool” about that seashell arrangement?

Comey probably thought he could make the controversy disappear with a few days of hero worship from the Left and then a quick delete – but in today’s political circus, even a pile of seashells can trigger a federal investigation. And that’s exactly what happened. The Secret Service showed up the next day to talk to him (and his wife). He hasn’t been slapped with handcuffs yet – but hey, a girl can dream.

Comey, of course, told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace that he found it hard to have “regret” over the post. Of course not. That’s who Democrats are.

In an interview on Fox News, Trump accused Comey of calling for his assassination, stating, “He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant? That meant assassination. And it says it loud and clear.” Trump added, “He wasn’t very competent, but he was competent enough to know what that meant. And he did it for a reason.”

The incident has, not surprisingly, ignited a firestorm of political memes and mockery.
