While past presidents prioritized housing illegal aliens and leasing out VA land to private schools and baseball teams, President Trump is flipping the script – reclaiming Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) land to give 6,000 homeless veterans the housing they deserve.

For years, Washington bureaucrats and virtue-signaling politicians have pledged to “honor” our veterans – usually just before denying them medical care or in the case of Joe Biden and the Democrats, redirecting funding to housing and services for illegal aliens.

But President Donald J. Trump just reminded America what actual action looks like for our most treasured Americans. On May 9th, the president signed an executive order that doesn’t just talk about helping homeless veterans – it builds an entire National Center for Warrior Independence to do it.

Located on the historic West Los Angeles VA campus, the center will house up to 6,000 veterans again – many of whom currently sleep in tents on L.A.’s infamous Skid Row.

In the past, the feds turned land meant for disabled veterans into a playground for elites, while thousands of homeless veterans live on the streets within miles of that very campus. That legacy ends now says Trump.

Trump’s executive order does more than dust off a dilapidated campus. It also…

  • Redirects money that was being used to house and give services to illegal aliens and instead uses it to serve American veterans. (Shocking concept, right?)
  • Orders the VA Secretary to clean house and fire any leftover swamp creatures reinstated by the Biden administration – you know, the ones who were fired for actual misconduct.
  • Demands an action plan to restore full housing capacity at the National Center for Warrior Independence by January 1, 2028.
  • Launches plans to improve care access and reduce wait times for veterans – including after- hours appointments and virtual visits.

To be transparent about the situation, you should know that in September of 2024, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter ordered in a landmark ruling that the VA had to significantly expand housing for homeless veterans on its 388-acre West Los Angeles campus. His ruling ordered the construction of 750 temporary units within 18 months and a plan for 1,800 additional permanent units beyond the 1,200 already in development. He also declared the current leases to the outsiders illegal.

Additionally, Judge Carter criticized the VA for decades of mismanagement, including allowing private entities to build facilities on the land, thereby diverting it from its intended purpose of housing veterans.

Now, President Trump is following up on this ruling and going above and beyond the call of duty. Our MAGA president is doing what career politicians (and other presidents before him) haven’t – keeping promises, restoring dignity, and kicking incompetence to the curb. And most importantly – giving veterans the respect and care that they have earned – and deserve.
