For months, Democrats have warned of “devastating” Republican-led Medicaid cuts that would supposedly throw grandma off her wheelchair and into a snowbank. But now that the House GOP has dropped an actual reform package, the left’s fainting couches might need some reupholstering – because the “cuts” Republicans are looking at aren’t targeting seniors or the disabled – they’re going after the sacred cows of abortion providers and the booming industry of medically mutilating confused kids.

According to the Daily Caller News Foundation, under the proposal from the House Energy & Commerce (E&C) Committee, federal Medicaid dollars would no longer go to providers who perform abortions like Planned Parenthood. It would also ban Medicaid from funding so-called “gender-affirming” procedures for minors: puberty blockers, mastectomies and genital surgeries…all paid for by YOU, the American taxpayer, under the banner of “healthcare.”

Of course, the leftist media has hit the panic button. No matter what the Republicans do, the AP shrieks that they are “leaving millions without care,” conveniently skipping the part where “care” in this particular case means padding the bank accounts of abortion providers and giving taxpayer dollars for irreversible surgeries on children.

The outrage machine on the left is always up and running, fueled by the assumption that government checks for everything under the sun (including elective procedures for minors) are some kind of God- given right.

But these aren’t cuts to necessary healthcare. It’s a moral reset. The GOP isn’t saying Medicaid should disappear. They’re saying it shouldn’t be abused. That it shouldn’t bankroll industries that profit off death and disfigurement. The idea that taxpayers should cover a 15-year-old’s double mastectomy because she got sucked into a TikTok rabbit hole is insane. Likewise, pretending that Planned Parenthood – a billion-dollar organization that gets almost half its revenue from the government – needs even more taxpayer subsidies to keep the lights on is just insulting.

The Republican proposal is part of a broader effort to rein in Medicaid expansion costs, add work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents, and close the loopholes states use to inflate federal matching funds. But the real headline is this: Republicans are finally aiming at the cultural and financial rot hiding under Medicaid’s bloated umbrella. It’s about waste, fraud and abuse – all things that the Democrats have shown that they want to continue.

Naturally, Democrats are foaming at the mouth – and will continue to do so – accusing the GOP of being cruel and heartless. But maybe, just maybe, what’s truly heartless is the current system: one that pretends to “care” for people while encouraging the exploitation of the vulnerable, from scared pregnant teens to mentally fragile kids convinced they were “born in the wrong body.”

But don’t forget that we also have to deal with possible RINO roadblocks that might pop up along the way – those so-called Republicans who make teamwork feel like herding cats. Poor House Speaker Mike Johnson has the thankless job of wrangling them all behind President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” And let’s be honest, sometimes it’s the Republicans who are causing the biggest headaches – often more so than the Dems because we already know how THEY will be voting.
