In a plot twist worthy of a reality TV finale, President Donald Trump has pirouetted from TikTok’s harshest critic to its unexpected savior. After the Supreme Court upheld a law mandating ByteDance to divest its U.S. TikTok operations by January 19, 2025, the app faced an unceremonious exit from American screens.
But then Trump signed an executive order granting TikTok a 75-day reprieve, effectively hitting the snooze button on the ban.
However, as of Wednesday, the app still isn’t available for download in the U.S. on Apple or Google stores, even though President Trump signed an order delaying the ban.
When asked about TikTok, Trump floated the bold idea that the U.S. should snag a 50% stake in TikTok’s American business. Yes, you read that right – Uncle Sam as a social media mogul. Sounds like a pretty good idea, actually.
The big question remains: Is Trump really TikTok’s savior or is he just stalling the inevitable? With the app still missing from U.S. stores and uncertainty hanging in the air, users and businesses are left wondering what comes next.
