Yes, I know. Neither Governor Ron DeSantis nor former President Donald Trump has said they are running to be president in 2024 but I am hoping that they both do.
Even President Biden agrees with me. He said recently, “It’d be fun watching them take on each other.”
There will be other Republicans who will run, of course, possibly dozens like the last time, but most folks (and especially the media) will be focusing on those two. They will take up most of the oxygen in the room.
Side note: I’d really really really really like to see Liz Cheney run in the Republican primary for the pure entertainment value.
Media-hog Trump is speculated to be throwing his golf hat into the ring on Tuesday when he makes his “very big” announcement. And since DeSantis just completely annihilated his competition (or lack of) to be Florida’s governor again with a 19.4% walloping of Republican Democrat opportunist Charlie Christ, he’ll probably hold off a bit to make his announcement.
In DeSantis’ landslide victory speech, he sounded very presidential when he said, “We fight the woke in the Legislature.We fight the woke in the schools. We fight the woke in the corporations. We will never, ever surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die… I have only begun to fight.”
The two fighters, Ron and Don, would be fun to watch in a Republican presidential primary and I can’t wait to see what nickname that Trump comes up with to give the Ronster. So far, he’s tried out “DeSanctimonious” at a recent rally. Maybe he’ll call him “The Apprentice” so that Trump can claim the mantle of being the guy on top.
I think Ron should be thinking ahead to come up with a nickname for Donald as well. Maybe he can ask us for input, possibly have a vote with the winner getting free Chil-fil-A for life or coupons to Hobby Lobby.
The New York Post has already come up with a name for Ron with their headline “DeFuture” on Wednesday’s front page.
DeSantis, who received an endorsement from President Trump when he ran for governor the first time, has been warned by Orange Man Bad to back off. Trump said, “I would tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering – I know more about him than anybody – other than, perhaps, his wife.”
Trump also took a shot at DeSantis on Truth Social after the election where he said, “’Now that the Election in Florida is over, and everything went quite well, shouldn’t it be said that in 2020, I got 1.1 Million more votes in Florida than Ron D got this year, 5.7 Million to 4.6 Million? Just asking.“
If DeSantis were to step down from being governor to run to be the president, would he have to resign as governor? Probably say some constitutional law professors as Florida law requires elected
officials seeking a local, state or federal office while serving in a current one to resign. And it must occur no later than 10 days before qualifying for the federal office. Otherwise, it’s an automatic resignation.
The statute [1] actually reads, “Any officer who qualifies for federal public office must resign from the office he or she presently holds if the terms, or any part thereof, run concurrently with each other.”
But what does “qualifies” mean? Being the final nominee? Qualifying for the first primary state? Signing up to run?
Because no sitting Florida governor has run for president, things are a little questionable.
But you know, of course, the Democrats will be working overtime to do what they can to make his life miserable with lawsuits and all kinds of things to keep him off the ballot.
Just like they are doing with Trump.
That’s what they have in common. Being leftist targets for total destruction.
