Olympian Tamyra Mensah-Stock won a gold medal in women’s wrestling on Tuesday and became a real winner to patriotic Americans all over the United States.

More Americans than ever this year (including me) have been ignoring the Olympics after the committee decided that men could compete in women events and after some American athletes threatened to shun the national anthem, the flag and their country.

Add to that a limited live audience and the whole Simone Biles soap opera and a lot of people just thought the Olympics weren’t worth watching.

But then came Tamyra who, after winning her gold in women’s wrestling and being interviewed, she was crying, jumping up and down, draping the American flag over her shoulders and telling everyone how great it was to represent America.

She’s proud of her country, her sport and her performance.

She’s the reason we have always watched the Olympics (until this year at least).

When asked about how she felt to represent her country, she said, “I love representing the U.S. I freaking love living there” and then she pumped her fist and pulled the flag closer to her body.

She made a name for herself as the first black woman to win a wrestling gold medal. But she REALLY made a name for herself being a grateful and proud American.

The real question is… will she grace front of a Wheaties box or is General Mills not going to acknowledge a patriotic gold medalist?

I’d certainly buy a box.

Or two.
