The Senate is currently debating S1, the former HR1 elections bill that seeks to legalize Democrat cheating. In this bill ballot harvesting would be legal, voter ID illegal, and most other election integrity measures done away with. The Democrats have the votes to pass it because Donald Trump, through his egomaniacal intervention, lost the Senate runoffs for the Republicans in January. The blood is on his hands.
But past that are larger questions, in a deeply divided nation is this adding fuel to a fire? Is this merely a headache to be overcome or is this a direct threat to the American republic? Will reapportionment mitigate the worst effects of this? If this is a direct threat to free elections and reapportionment will not balance some of it out, what will the American people, overfed on a cultural diet of moronic pop culture and lowest common denominator education standards, do about it?
This is the worst time for Democrats to try this if they truly cared about the country. It is gasoline on an inferno. To quote Yeats:
“Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.”
It seems today the leading lights in the Democrat Party are vicious Bolsheviks and the powers that be in the Republican Party kowtow to a touchy demagogue in residence at Mar-a-Lago. The reasonable people are sidelined. Emotions rule, cognition fades. But the Democrats know they have the votes to pass it. They will push it to the end.
This is a direct threat to the Republic because it instills corruption and ideological advantage at the heart of the election system. Republicans already operate with a media, pop culture, academic, and high tech disadvantage. Now the rules are fixed against them in elections. The Democrats are aiming for the communist dream of a one party system.
Republicans will gain from census reapportionment. But will their gains be canceled out by Democrat cheating elsewhere? Will Republicans be allowed, under HR1, to ever again gain a national majority? Is this a first step on the road to a Democrat dictatorship run on racist socialism, not unlike another racist socialist state that ran Germany in the 1930s?
And what will we do if and when our political freedoms are eroded to the point of automatic and perpetual Democrat rule? I don’t have a positive view of human nature. My training and inclinations as a historian guarantee that. Most people, when it comes to government, prefer benevolent masters to freedom.
Vast numbers of humanity are lazy stupid sheep more concerned with middlebrow entertainment and base appetites than with anything approaching intellectual sentience, honor, or courage. The American people as a whole are no different. They used to be. But the Frankfurt School Marxist “long march through the institutions” (look it up) has seen to that. What will we do, at least most of us in this country? Ignore it and find something else to watch on cable. After all, what’s the big deal about a PC dictatorship when something good is on HBO Max?
