Stimulus Deal Still Barely Possible

Does Nancy Pelosi care more about America or about gaining raw power in Washington? We all know the answer to that one.

But she’s playing a dangerous game in holding up the president’s latest stimulus proposal. Yes, Trump could get some of the blame. However, so will her Democrat House incumbents. So it’s a political game of chicken. Does she gamble on the blame game or give the president what he wants and what would benefit the American people? Regardless, the White House wants a deal. Though this close to election day, time is running out to get a decent deal.

OAN fills in details on the White House view, “White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow has said he believes a stimulus deal is still on the table. During a recent interview, Kudlow voiced his optimism for a stimulus package getting through Congress. He suggested if Democrats can accept a proposal from the White House, Senate GOP members will follow suit. Republicans in the Senate have been skeptical of the President’s recent stimulus proposal of $1.8 trillion. However, Kudlow stated the stimulus relief package is not dead and reiterated Senate Republicans will push a bill backed by the House.”

“I don’t think it’s dead at all,” said Kudlow on Sunday. “I think if an agreement can be reached, they will go along with it…He (Mnuchin) knows we need as much power for economic recovery as possible. It’s not just recovery in three weeks, it’s recovery to the end of the year and beyond in a second possible term…These are simple things. They have bipartisan support. We could do it as stand-alone bills, or an omnibus bill, or whatever. But I don’t understand the intransigence from my Democratic friends. We’re not talking about giveaways to state and locals, fixing pension funds, harvesting mail ballots, assistance to illegal immigrants that have nothing to do with COVID or the economy.”

That’s just the issue. Pelosi can play possum until there isn’t a second term and then pass it. In the ensuing Democrat momentum after a presidential win the Democrats would get most of the credit and she knows it.

The financial community is feeling the roller coaster on this, according to the New York Times, “U.S. stocks have been carried higher lately in part on hopes that Congress and the Treasury Department would agree to a broad economic relief package. But on Saturday, Senate Republicans balked at the cost of another deal, while Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said the package did not go far enough. On Sunday, the White House suggested an agreement could still be reached before the election.” Whatever happens the election will overshadow it and any deal, and thus upcoming virus relief, will likely have to wait until the election is decided. Think January.
