A former flight attendant was given a shockingly light sentence this week for having sex with a 15 year-old student at the school where she worked.

The Sun reported that Melissa Nosti is an ex-flight attendant from Sydney, Australia who had sex with a 15 year-old student at the school she was working at as an attendance officer in 2010. She was arrested this year and pleaded guilty last week before being sentenced to 18 months in prison with a six month parole period.

Much to everyone’s surprise, however, Nosti has since been released on bail.

The former flight attendant for Tiger Air appeared in Burwood Local Court via video from Silverwater Women’s cells as her lawyer made a bail appeal, telling the court she was at “low risk” of reoffending according to a doctor’s assessment.

“She has had an employment history after this. She was in the airline industry,” her lawyer reportedly said.

Before granting bail, Magistrate Susan Horan said that a victim impact statement from Nosti’s victim was “compelling.”

Conditions of Nosti’s bail include her having one cellphone and giving police her password if she is asked to. She is also barred from being around anyone under 16 and from contacting both the victim and anyone connected to Tiger Air. Nosti is due to appear in Sydney’s District Court for an appeal hearing later this year.

This comes one month after a court in the United Kingdom was told that 35 year-old married teacher Kandice Barber had sex with a 15 year-old student in her “favorite” position. She also reportedly told the boy that he had a “bigger penis than her husband” in text messages.

She stands accused of having sex with the boy three times back in September of 2018.

“We saw the conversation between her and her husband and what he said there about her ‘favorite position’ being doggy-style,” said Judge Francis Sheridan.

The boy initially denied having sex with the teacher, but he has since admitted that they did indeed have intercourse.

“I lied because she had told me she could be pregnant with my child and I began to panic. I lied to pretty much everyone except my friends,” the boy told police. “She said that if I was going to snitch, snake on her basically, she was going to bring me down with her. I was like, are you going to accuse me of rape? She was like, dot dot dot. Obviously I got angry and I did not talk to her after that.”
