Kelly Clarkson just fired back at an internet troll who claimed that her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, who she filed for divorce from back in June, “didn’t work” because of her busy schedule as a singer and talk show host.

On Thursday, a Twitter troll went on the attack against Clarkson, who is filling in on “America’s Got Talent” for judge Simon Cowell after he broke his back in an electric bike accident and was nearly paralyzed.

“Now Kelly is taking Simon’s place,” the person tweeted, going on to add, “no wonder her marriage didn’t work … surprise she has time for her kids … not the good old country girl we fell in love with … it’s all about Kelly being on tv … and no one else … no tears for her … but for her kids.”

Clarkson responded hours later in a tweet of her own.

“Wow. Shaming a woman who has a great work ethic, is a great mom, and who steps up and fills in when a friends [sic] asks for a favor because that’s actually what ‘good old country girls’ do,” she wrote. “This can’t be who you are deep down. I have more faith in your heart.”

Clarkson shocked her fans when she filed for divorce from Blackstock back in June after nearly seven years of marriage and two children together, citing “irreconcilable differences.” At the time, a friend of the couple’s told PEOPLE magazine that they had “been like friends for a while,” and that work demands took a toll on their relationship.

“Things had changed in their marriage and the split was a while coming,” the insider said. “They both work so hard. It’s nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention.”

Quarantining together amidst the coronavirus pandemic also appears to have taken a toll on their marriage.

“Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead the change in environment was actually detrimental. The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse.”
