Hollywood star Antonio Banderas just spoke out on his 60th birthday to let his fans know that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Hello everyone, I want to make public that today, August 10, I am forced to celebrate my 60th birthday following quarantine, having tested positive with Covid-19 disease,” Banderas wrote in Spanish alongside a photo of himself as a little boy. “I would like to add that I feel relatively well, just a little more tired than usual and confident that I will recover as soon as possible following the medical indications that I hope will allow me to overcome the infectious process that I suffer and that is affecting so many people around the planet.”

“I will take advantage of this isolation to read, write, rest and continue making plans to begin to give meaning to my 60th year to which I arrive full of enthusiasm,” he added. “A big hug to everyone.”

This isn’t the first time that Banderas has suffered a health scare. He opened up last year about how his longtime girlfriend, model Nicole Kimpel, sprang to action and saved his life when he suffered a heart attack in 2017.

“I was living life in a not nice way. I’m not a drinker. I was a smoker, which was probably one of the most stupid things I have ever done in my whole life,” Banderas explained. “I was very lucky, after all.”

“The night before that I had this event, my girlfriend, she had a headache and we didn’t have anything in the house. So she went out to buy something, a painkiller or whatever,” Banderas recalled. “She bought this aspirin, which is the only thing that she found and she found the maximum one, I think it was five milligrams.”

The Golden Globe-winning star revealed that it was this bottle of aspirin that saved his life when his heart attack occurred the following day.

Banderas is just the latest celebrity to admit to testing positive for COVID-19, with other who have come down with the virus including Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, and most recently, Alyssa Milano.
