Shep Smith Scores New TV Gig On Different Network Nearly One Year After Leaving Fox News

Nearly one year after shocking his fans with his sudden exit from Fox News, Shep Smith has scored a new hosting gig on a different television network.

The Hill [1] reported that Smith has been given his own one-hour nightly news program on CNBC, where he will anchor “The News with Shepard Smith” every weeknight at 7pm beginning this fall.

“Information is coming at us from every direction. If we’re not careful life-altering decisions will be made based on half-truth, rumor, misdirection or worse,” CNBC Chairman Mark Hoffman said in a statement.

“We aim to deliver a nightly program that, in some small way, looks for the signal in all the noise. We’re thrilled that Shep, who’s built a career on an honest fight to find and report the facts, will continue his pursuit of the truth at CNBC.”

“Shep’s newscast will tap into his extensive experience and deep passion for breaking news, in-depth storytelling and incisive interviews and serve as the perfect bridge between CNBC’s daytime investor-focused news programming and the network’s aspirational business-oriented entertainment programs in primetime,” Hoffman added.

Smith will also be taking on the roles of Chief Breaking General News Anchor and Executive Editor of the program.

“I know I found a great home for my newscast. I am excited to be working with the exceptional talent at CNBC and eager to build a team focused on uncovering the news behind the headlines,” Smith said, adding that he is “honored to continue to pursue the truth, both for CNBC’s loyal viewers and for those who have been following my reporting for decades in good times and in bad.”

This comes nine months after Smith shocked his fans by making a sudden exit from Fox News despite being with the network for 23 years.

This was particularly surprising given the fact that Smith had signed a multiyear contract with Fox in 2018, yet he still made the decision to leave in October of last year.

“Under our agreement, I won’t be reporting elsewhere, at least in the near feature,” Smith said [2] at the time, suggesting that he wanted to spend more time with his family. “And then we’ll see what comes along.”
