Meghan Markle reportedly begged her father Thomas to attend her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, sending him text after text asking him to come, according to a new tell-all book.
“The night before the wedding, she sent her father one last text,” states the new book “Finding Freedom, Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family,” according to excerpts obtained by The Times of London [1].
“He did not reply,” the book continues. “Sitting in a bath later that night, FaceTiming with a friend, the bride-to-be said she had left her dad a final message, adding, ‘I can’t sit up all night just pressing send.’”
When so-called “candid” photos that were clearly staged showing Thomas at home in the resort town of Rosarito Beach, Mexico began running in tabloids, Meghan reportedly at first refused to believe that her father was cooperating with them.
“Dad, we need to know if this is true or not, because my team is going to try to stop this story running — if you are telling me it’s fake,” she reportedly told Thomas, according to sources who spoke to royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.
“If they do that, they’re going out of their way to protect you, Dad,” Meghan told him over the phone. “You’re telling me you’re being victimized, right?”
However, the book claims that Thomas “lied to Meghan.”
“Every single time she was calling him, she was like, ‘Dad, I love you. I just want you to know I love you. Everything is fine. Just get here. We’ll have the wedding. We’ll celebrate. Don’t worry about any of this stuff. Let’s just put it behind us,’” source said. “You want to believe the best, right?”
Just four days before Meghan’s wedding, headlines began running that Thomas had suffered a heart attack, which stopped him from going to the wedding. Harry and Meghan were left blaming the media for what happened with her father.
“The pressure he was put under for six months before he finally cracked and started to participate,” a senior courtier told the authors of Meghan’s father, “that’s what Harry’s angry about.”
