Earlier this week, we reported that Tom Bergeron had shockingly been fired from his hosting job on “Dancing With The Stars,” which he had hosted since the show premiered back in 2005, and replaced by former supermodel Tyra Banks. Now, “DWTS” judge Carrie Ann Inaba is revealing that she broke down in tears when she learned that Bergeron and his cohost Erin Andrews had been fired.
“I feel like it was just such sudden news,” Inaba said on “The Talk,” according to Fox News [1]. “My heart breaks for Tom and Erin.”
“I cried when I heard the news, as well as, I think a lot of our fans did,” she added.
Inaba went on to say that she did not like that Banks was being labeled the first black host of the show, as the African American television presenter Lisa Canning had hosted the show in season one.
“Season 1 we had Lisa Canning [co-host with Bergeron],” Inaba explained. “Also, I don’t think that’s how we should be labeling her. [Banks is] our new host. Period. It has nothing to do with the color of her skin.”
“I think it has to do with all that Tyra Banks is. All the energy she has,” the judge added. “She’s like a visionary, she’s a strong, powerful woman. I think we’re in good hands. It’s different, the fans are going to have to get used to it, I understand that, but I think we should welcome her.”
Inaba also assured fans that there are no plans to shake up the judging panel.
“That is the plan, that we’re coming back. But they’re going make the official announcement in a few weeks. They’re just going to keep letting us know all the details,” she said. “I don’t want people to worry. It seems like everything is ok.”
This comes after Bergeron shocked everyone by revealing that he had abruptly been fired from the show.
“Just informed [Dancing With the Stars] will be continuing without me,” the 65 year-old host tweeted. “It’s been an incredible 15-year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”
