Ken Osmond of ‘Leave It to Beaver’ Fame’s Cause of Death Is Finally Revealed

Last month, we reported [1] that actor Ken Osmond, who played the character of Eddie Haskell on “Leave It To Beaver” had passed away at the age of 76. Now, his cause of death has finally been revealed to the public.

Osmond’s death certificate, which was obtained by TMZ [2], states that he died of suffering cardiopulmonary arrest. It also says that he had suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which obstructs airflow from the lungs.

Other conditions that the document says Osmond was suffering from at the time of his passing included anemia, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, depression, hypertension and pneumonia. It highlights the fact that he was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces and that he spent sixty years working in the entertainment industry, before adding that he was cremated.

Osmond passed away on May 18 at his home in Los Angeles, California with his family by his side.

“He was an incredibly kind and wonderful father,” Osmond’s son Eric told Fox News [3] at the time. ”He had his family gathered around him when he passed. He was loved and will be very missed.”

Born in Glendale, California, Osmond scored his first acting gig at the age of 4, and he spent the next few years working in commercials and as a film extra. He quickly became a successful child star who logged appearances in shows like “Good Morning Miss Dove,” “Everything But the Truth,” “The Loretta Young Show,” “The Walter Winchell File,” “Fury,” “Lassie,” and “Wagon Train.”

Fox News [4] reported that Osmond’s most iconic role, however, was as the troublemaking Eddie Haskell on “Leave It To Beaver.” He was initially only set to appear as a guest star in one episode, but he became so popular that he appeared on the show for the entirety of its run from 1957 to 1963.

After “Leave It To Beaver” ended its run, Osmond found himself being typecast in similar roles to Eddie Haskell, so he made the decision to launch a new career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1970. He was shot a decade later during a high-speed chase, with his life only being saved by a bulletproof vest. Osmond went on to retire from the LAPD in 1988.

Jerry Mathers, who played The Beaver on “Leave It To Beaver,” spoke out to pay tribute to Osmond after his passing.

“Ken Osmond has been my lifelong friend and someone who I knew I could always go to for advice and good counsel,” Mathers said. “I have always said that he was the best actor on our show because his real-life personality was so opposite of the character he so brilliantly portrayed. I will greatly miss him along with his countless fans all over the world.”
