Police officers have to be ready for absolutely anything when they show up for work every day, as they never know what’s going to come their way. Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Rick Morgan knows this all too well, and he’s seen quite a lot of unusual things during his time on the force. On Monday, however, something happened that threw even this seasoned officer for a loop!
CBS News [1] reported that when Morgan pulled over a driver who was swerving so badly that he appeared to need medical attention, he was shocked to find out that it was actually a 5 year-old boy! Morgan said afterwards that the driver did not respond to his lights, only pulling over on Interstate 15 when he hit his siren.
“I approached the vehicle and I was expecting to find somebody who needed an ambulance or paramedics,” Morgan said. When the window rolled down, it instead became clear to him that it was “a very underaged driver who was behind the wheel.”
Morgan said the little boy was sitting on the very edge of the seat just so he could reach the pedals. The boy has since been identified by his first name of Adrian, and it turns out he managed to snag the keys of his family’s Dodge Journey and drive it two miles through Ogden, Utah before Morgan caught him.
“Where did you come from? How did you get this car?” dash cam videos shows the trooper asking Adrian, who responded that he was driving to his sister’s house…in California!
Adrian then told another officer that he planned to travel to California to buy a Lamborghini, proudly flashing the $3 he had in his wallet that he planned to use to purchase his dream car.
His story is that he left home after an argument with Mom, in which she told him she would not buy him a Lamborghini. He decided he’d take the car and go to California to buy one himself. He might have been short on the purchase amount, as he only had $3 dollars in his wallet.

Sidney Estrada, Adrian’s sister, told KUTV [3] that she had been watching her siblings while their parents were at work when she fell asleep.
It was only when she woke up that she realized her brother was gone.
“I saw that the truck was gone, and he was gone, and the keys were gone … I don’t know what went through his mind,” she recalled.
His family said that Adrian had never driven a car before, so they have no idea how he made it as far as he did.
“How does a little five year old, eleven years younger than me, do it and I can’t?” Estrada said.
“The police told me I drive good,” Adrian added proudly.
Adrian’s family said that this should be a lesson to everyone to keep car keys as far away from children as possible. You never know when you may have a natural little driver on your hands!
