Sunday saw the first daily drop in New York state deaths from coronavirus. Saturday deaths from the virus were at 630. On Sunday the number was at 594. The hospital discharge rate is also up.

Commented Governor Andrew Cuomo on the statistics, “The statisticians will not give you a straight answer on anything. At first, it was straight up and straight down, or a total V. Or maybe it’s up with a plateau and we’re somewhere on the plateau. They don’t know.”

He later said, “The number of beds doesn’t really matter anymore. We have the beds. It’s the ventilators, and then it’s the staff.”

On the subject of virus operations in New York, Fox News reports, “Separately, the military said in a statement that the 1,000 personnel would work in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). A total of 300 of these ‘uniformed medical providers will work from the Javits Center and the rest will deploy to other area locations to expand local medical capabilities in the war against COVID-19,’ U.S. Northern Command, which is leading coronavirus efforts for the Department of Defense, said.”

Supply logjams seem to have been cleared up in the Empire State due to military efforts and coordination with the federal government. The hot zone is still in New York City and its suburbs like Rockland County. Officials at the county level are doing all they can to stop the spread of the virus and, with exceptions, most New York state residents seem to be adhering to guidelines and virus regulations.

On other virus news:

  • The U.S. has topped 10,000 deaths. The infection rate is over 300,000.
  • In France the government is using heat-seeking drones to identify those breaking stay in place regulations.
  • Across the globe over 1.2 million people are infected and 65,000 have died from the virus.
  • 250,000 have recovered from the virus all over the world.
  • The WHO stated that 95% of European deaths have been in people over 60 years of age.
