Report: DOJ Sounds the Alarm Over Government Regulation of Church Services During COVID-19

The left is trying to wage a war against religion yet again.

This time they’re trying to use the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to prevent the public from easily being able to follow their faith during these trying times.

The mayor in Louisville, KY actually tried to ban drive-in church sermons for Easter weekend but was thankfully stopped by a judge.

A federal court judge bucked an order from Louisville, Ky., Mayor Greg Fischer (D) that disallows drive-in church services over the weekend amid the pandemic, saying the measures “criminalized” Easter celebrations.

On Fire Christian Church sued Fischer and the city of Louisville on Friday, claiming that the mayor’s directive for churches to forgo gatherings to aid in slowing the spread of the coronavirus violates constitutional rights and religious liberties.

U.S. District Judge Justin Walker issued a temporary restraining order Saturday, saying, “On Holy Thursday, an American mayor criminalized the communal celebration of Easter,” the Louisville Courier Journal reported. [The Hill [1]]

Well now the DOJ is firing back at these religious injustices and warned they will “take action” against local governments that have banned safe religious services.

The Justice Department (DOJ) may take action next week against local governments that have cracked down on religious services as widespread parts of the country are shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, a DOJ spokesperson said Saturday.

“While social distancing policies are appropriate during this emergency, they must be applied evenhandedly [and] not single out religious [organizations],” DOJ Director of Communications Kerri Kupec tweeted.

She said the Attorney General William Barr is “monitoring” such regulations.

The DOJ move would come as some churches are standing up to city governments that have blocked them from holding in-person services during the outbreak — even in “drive-in” formats that keep people separated and in their own cars. [Fox News [3]]

Good!

Americans shouldn’t have to suffer by losing their religious freedom, especially when they’re still practicing social distancing measures.

Seriously, who is this harming”
