New Study: Nearly Every Single NYC Coronavirus Hospital Patient Suffered From an Underlying Health Condition

I don’t care where you land on the Coronavirus debate – if you’re pro-lockdown or pro-reopen, the facts are the facts. The overwhelming majority of people who catch Coronavirus experience little to no symptoms. This is a scientific fact that is not up for debate.

80% of percent of people infected with COVID-19 show mild to no symptoms whatsoever.

A recent study, published in the British Medical Journal, suggested that 78% of people with COVID-19 have no symptoms.

The findings are in line with research from an Italian village at the epicentre of the outbreak showing that 50%-75% were asymptomatic, but represented “a formidable source” of contagion. A recent Icelandic study also showed that around 50% of those who tested positive to COVID-19 in a large-scale testing exercise were asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, a WHO report found that “80% of infections are mild or asymptomatic, 15% are severe infections and 5% are critical infections”. [The Conversation [2]]

Furthermore, the vast majority of those who do experience severe symptoms and wind up in the hospital have underlying health conditions.

Look at Italy – where more than 99% of the folks who died had underlying health issues.

More than 99% of coronavirus patients who died in Italy suffered from other, pre-existing health issues, according to a study by the country’s health officials.

The new research from the National Institutes of Health released Tuesday evaluated 355 of the country’s fatalities and found that only three patients had no prior medical conditions.

It is very rare that someone who is truly a “perfectly healthy” person dies from Coronavirus. Does it happen? Sure, just like perfectly healthy people who are out jogging suddenly drop dead from a heart attack. These things happen in life, but they’re not the norm.

A new study on New York hospital patients supports all this former data as well and also is very similar to the Italy study.

The study shows that a whopping 94% of the people in New York City who were hospitalized (regardless of age) suffered from underlying health issues.

Coronavirus wreaks havoc on folks with pre-existing conditions and people who are overweight as well.

Almost every hospital patient admitted for the coronavirus in New York was already suffering from an underlying health condition.

A study published [4] this week by the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that 94% of coronavirus patients in the New York City area, the hardest-hit region in the United States, were suffering from another disease other than COVID-19, according to Time magazine [5].

Researchers examined the medical records of 5,700 coronavirus patients who had been admitted to the hospital system with the largest amount of cases in the country in March and early April.

The median patient age was 63 years old, and the most common underlying ailments were hypertension, affecting 53% of the patients, and obesity, affecting 42% of patients with BMI data. 32% of the patients were admitted already suffering from diabetes. [Washington Examiner [6]]

If you listen to the fake news it sounds as if every single person who catches Coronavirus will be on a ventilator. That just is not true.

What is true, is that if you’re unhealthy and you catch Coronavirus, no matter how old or young you are, you are likely to wind up in the hospital and be in much hotter water.

I’m a firm believer that folks who are high-risk – regardless of age – should stay indoors. But those who are healthy should get out and carry the load and reopen the country so that when this passes, the people who needed some extra help now will have a country to return to.
