According to sources close to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her Covid-19 task force, the state has been ‘banking’ numbers of people sick with the virus to use later.

The numbers come from prisons across the state, which of course are controlled by the state, and from nursing homes across Michigan, which are overseen by the state. The numbers come from old cases but have not been released.

The intent is to “create the perception of a new surge”, according to the source who agreed to share the information on condition of anonymity. The idea is if a new surge can be shown, “the Governor can justify her lockdown on businesses and people”.

Michigan, according to The University of Washington, is now well past its peak in the outbreak of cases. The highest number of new cases was reported on April 3rd with 1,953 and the highest number of deaths was reported April 10th at 205. However, the April 10th numbers were inflated because 30 old deaths were arbitrarily added to that days count.

We have also learned that anyone that dies with Covid-19 in Michigan is listed  as having died from the disease, even suicides, and those in hospice sick from other illnesses.

So, adding cases to give the illusion of a new surge is not surprising at this point given the political pressure to justify the economic damage done so far.

The fact it is simply dishonest doesn’t seem to be part of the equation. The Governor and her team are facing a growing backlash from all corners of the state over her statewide lockdown based on concerns over the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
