Bill Gates in so stranger to enterprise, innovation, or controversy. The founder of Microsoft has taken a lot of public stands over the years, some of them not conservative. He has also been the victim of scurrilous lies coming from the wacky conspiracy crowd.

But aside from other celebrities, he has not attacked the president or the administration during the national crisis over the coronavirus. He sat down and talked to Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday.

“I’m sure you know, once we get past this, we’ll look back, understand what we could have done differently, and make sure that we’re not letting it happen again, particularly because it could be even worse in terms of the fatality rate,” he said.

“This is a nightmare scenario because human-to-human transmittal respiratory viruses can grow exponentially,” Gates said. “And you know, if we had kept on going to work, traveling like we were, you know, that curve would never bend until you had the majority of the people infected and then a massive number seeking hospital care and lots of lots of deaths.”

This tracks perfectly with the advice of the president and his team.

“Well, when you have finite resources you need to allocate them to where there’s the most need,” said Gates. “Certainly because people move around the country, we have to have the shutdown or else you’ll have exponential growth. It will spread back into other parts of the country.”

Again, in sync with the president’s message.

There is a spirit in the land, even amongst some people who usually can be partisan and biting. Not all, but certain people have put that aside and are working for the common good of all Americans.

That is not the case with Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, or Chuck Schumer. For them it is vicious partisan politics as usual.

But right now, Bill Gates is different. Let’s hope this begins a trend with him. It would be good to have a man like that on our side.
