This registered nurse from Alabama, someone on the front lines, has been hearing all the negative tones and conspiracies about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and decided to record a public service announcement.
The virus is a concern, and I’m glad it’s being taken seriously and with that said, I’m very concerned about how this and other issues are causing so much division in our country (though I see hopeful signs that others are also concerned and are doing what they can about it).
This is a time when we need to work together and put aside party differences. We also need to realize that it’s possible to disagree without the other person becoming an enemy and that we can discuss different ideas rationally so that we can come up with the best solution.

Ask yourself this question – is it essential to be able to go to the hospital and get help during a medical emergency? If your answer is yes, then you should be concerned about the Coronavirus. Most people are correct; the death rate is relatively low. The problem is it overruns your hospitals with people needing intensive care.
It’s essential to test and get a handle on this. It is a very contagious disease with an R0 of 2.9 or so, meaning one carrier will pass it on to 2.9 others on average. This is 1.5 times as contagious as Ebola (R0 of 1.9) more than twice as contagious as the seasonal flu (R0 of 1.3). Add that to the fact that it is from 10 to 30 times more deadly than the seasonal flu; we should be concerned.
Don’t let it run your life, but be very careful.
