I don’t know what’s going on in Italy, but I do know human anatomy is the same there as it is in the US, biology has not changed so it could easily happen in America.
So people who keep going out to beaches where just 1 person had it, now all personnel at the beach have it, now they’re going home and their hometown has it. Just saying people were laughing when China closed down.

I talked with a military veteran friend of mine, now living in Switzerland, but is an Italian national, told me that Italy is not a clean country. Due to the lack of good sanitization and bad health infrastructure are the main drivers behind high mortality.
He also told me, if you go to Italy you can see how much more close people are. From relying heavily on public transportation or every business just gathering large crowds. That just allows the infection to spread like a wildfire before they even show symptoms.
Since March 10, the nation of 60 million has been on lockdown in an attempt to control the coronavirus outbreak there, currently the worst in the world.
As of Wednesday, 35,713 people were infected and 2,978 had died in Italy. On Wednesday alone, 475 people died from the coronavirus in Italy — the highest one-day death toll of any nation.
People can go outside only if there’s an urgent reason. The self-certification form’s options for leaving the house include work, health reasons, or “necessity” — which covers things like buying food.
According to TheLocal.it, an English-language site for Italian news, anyone who breaks the quarantine rules can be charged, fined, and face up to three months in prison.

My state is currently in a soft “shelter in place” status. Officially, it means that no one should leave their home except to obtain essential services, and all businesses that are not essential are to be closed. Grocery stores, pharmacies, healthcare facilities, banks, gas stations, and certain other businesses are allowed to remain open as long as they take steps to ensure social distancing.
But, due to our self-centered society, there’s a lot of folks who are ignoring the order. I had to swing by the grocery store yesterday, and there were just as many people in there on a Wednesday as there normally is on a weekend. On the way back, I saw a GameStop, a beauty supply store, and a tattoo parlor all open for business. Traffic is noticeably reduced, but there are still way more people out and about than there should be for the ordered current restrictions.

And unfortunately, the more people & businesses there are that ignore these limited restrictions, the more likely we are to end up in a full-on lockdown like Italy. And in all likelihood, due to the ‘Merica! crowd & self-centered nature of our society, if it reaches that point there will probably be riots.
In the United States, people just let their sick kids running around grocery stores and spread the disease. People shop despite having a cough. No telling how many people are infected at this point.
The ones getting tested are those that they think actually have coronavirus. Trying to keep people at home in the United States is insanity. It’s like trying to stop an invisible hurricane with a band-aid.
