As of Friday, Maryland is reporting nearly 1,000 cases of coronavirus in Maryland, according to the state health department.
At least 992 of those cases have tested positive for COVID-19 cases. The state also reported 11,516 were diagnosed with negative test results.
Of the positive cases, 226 patients were hospitalized while 32 were released from isolation. A man in his 80s from Anne Arundel County became the 5th fatality in the state and it remains unclear how the individual contracted the virus.

There were 194 additional positive patients identified in Maryland in the last 24 hours, according to the Maryland Department of Health.
Gov. Larry Hogan led a teleconference meetings with his full cabinet and the coronavirus task force. With a vaccine at least a year away and possible treatments still being tested, health experts said social distancing and data remain some of the best weapons we currently have to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, there were 774 confirmed coronavirus cases in Maryland — a 33% surge in new cases in one day. There were 41 new hospitalizations reported, and 22% of all cases have been hospitalized so far, according to MDH.
For the last two and half months, the guidance worldwide has been this is a virus that can be most dangerous for people 60 and older. In Maryland, 54% of the patients are younger than 50 and 73% of the total are younger than 60. [WBAL]
