It’s that iconic.

President Trump is making some amazing efforts in fighting against COVID-19 and what he’s doing for New York is certainly no exception.

Even anti-Trump New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had to give the president and son-in-law Jared Kushner props for how they’re tackling the virus:

This doesn’t happen every day.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has been hot and cold on the federal response to his state’s worst-in-the-country crisis with the coronavirus, gave a tip of his hat Wednesday to both President Trump and top White House aide Jared Kushner.

On Trump, after pushing the president to use authority under the Defense Production Act to do more to get key medical products to states, Cuomo said the president was using it well.

“Very different tone from Cuomo today. He says Trump and his team are using the Defense Production Act ‘well’ as a leverage tool to ramp up medical supply production,” tweeted Nick Reisman, a political reporter for Spectrum News who highlighted the change in tone in several tweets today. New York City is Trump’s home town and it’s the state currently being hit the hardest by coronavirus, so it was no surprise when the president pulls out the big guns and sent out a massive Navy hospital ship to help the city.

President Trump championed “the message of hope” that a Navy hospital ship will bring to the people of New York before it departed from Virginia.

At the send-off in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday, Trump said the United States is “at war with an invisible enemy” and touted the USNS Comfort’s ability to provide medical relief for New York City, which has been grappling with a growing coronavirus outbreak that has sickened thousands.

“Today, I’m here to express my profound gratitude to the dedicated service members who will soon be on the front lines of this fight,” the president said. “This great ship behind me is a 70,000-ton message of hope and solidarity to the incredible people of New York … We are here for you, we are fighting for you, and we are with you all the way.”

Standing next to Defense Secretary Mark Esper, Trump touted the speed at which the ship was able to get ready and said the departure was three weeks ahead of schedule. He also pointed out that the first patients will be treated on the Comfort on Tuesday and will be those who need medical treatment not related to coronavirus, as the hospitals in New York focus on combating the pandemic.
