Here Are Top Three Things You Should Do For Daylight Savings — The 4th Is A Bonus!

By Wayne Dupree | March 7, 2020

If Daylight Saving Time ran up on you out of nowhere this year, you’re not alone.

With the wild winter weather still hammering many sections of the country, it’s hard to believe it’s time to spring forward on Sunday, March 8, 2020, but ready or not, here it comes.

Is there anyone out there that likes having more light in the evenings? I love being able to have light at 8:30 PM. I like getting outside after a long day at work.

Everyone knows the clocks have to be changed but there are three must-do things that have to be done and the fourth, nobody had a clue.

1. Change the batteries in your smoke alarm. It’s a good idea to change out the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors once a year, so doing it the same weekend as changing the clocks is an easy way to stay on top of it.

2. Restock your emergency kit. You should already have a stocked emergency kit at home, but it might be even more important now with coronavirus going around. If you DON’T have one, put one together this weekend . . . and if you DO, go through it to make sure nothing has expired.

3. Clean out your fridge, pantry, and medicine cabinet. This is a good time to de-clutter all your food, medicine, and supplements. Toss anything that’s expired or you’re no longer using, and make it a point to use up anything that’s expiring soon.

And here’s the one most forget or didn’t know about:

4. Flip your mattress. Some mattresses should be flipped twice a year to avoid irregular wear, and it’s easy to remember if you do it the same weekend you change your clocks.

Here are a few more tips for trying to get your body right with the changing of daylight saving time

It is kind of amusing how we have to trick ourselves into modifying our sleeping hours to accommodate our contemporary lifestyles.

A rational approach to work and life would have us start business and school at least one hour earlier than is customary now so as to leave more daylight time at the end of the day for our own purposes.
