On February 21 reports indicated [1]that Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was killed in a US airstrike on January 3, would finally be replaced in [2] his position as deputy of the Hashd al-Shaabi. Abu Fadak ( أبو فدك) whose real name [3] is Abdul-Aziz al-Muhammadawi (عبد العزيز المحمداوي), formerly close to the Badr Organization, with extensive experience in the 1980s and involved in other operations, will be his replacement.

Some noted that not much [4] was known about him. However others noted that he was one of the “experienced field commanders and former [5] Secretary-General of Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah, known as ‘Khal (uncle)’ among some Iraqis.” Several noted that he was “a former Secretary [6]General of Kataib Hezbollah.” A source notes, “he joined Badr in 1983. he’s been active in military operations since 1985 and was Secretary-General of Kata’ib Hezbollah until now.” He was involved with intelligence and advising Hadi al-Amiri in the past. Where did he get the nickname “khal”? The word was spray painted on walls during the [7] protest at the US embassy in late December 2019.
