If you watched the last Democratic debate then you saw that Mike Bloomberg looked like the only semi-sane person on that stage. His spirited defense of capitalism and his subtle accusation that Bernie is a communist are points in his favor.

Combine that with moderate, by New York standards, terms as mayor of NYC, private sector success, the results of stop and frisk, and certain old-school cultural standards and conservatives, as Clint Eastwood already has, could think, Hey, I could live with that guy if Trump gets beat.

Think again.

The key phrase in the paragraph above is “New York standards.” Now look, I’m a native New Yorker and have no virulent hatred for the place. It is perhaps the most interesting city in the country, perhaps in the world. It’s mixture of culture, history, shops, dining, bars, etc. is world class. And that mixture is the very reason anybody who has ever governed it from the left should never be president of the United States.

For that plethora of luxury and glamour breeds a profound arrogance, contempt, and condescension towards the rest of America.

When we say “the left” we don’t mean the NYC left, which is absolutely communist except that they see themselves as the vanguard of the proles and thus entitled to all the good stuff. We mean the national left and Bloomberg is firmly in that camp or he wouldn’t be running as a Democrat.

His nanny state moves as mayor are legend.

We all remember the Big Gulp controversy, where the mayor decided to mandate in law how much soda New Yorkers could have in one serving. If they wanted more they just bought another drink. So it was useless. But that common sense deduction didn’t stop the above-mentioned nanny state arrogance of the man from legislating into even the most minor and petty aspects of private lives.

The Manhattan island wide public smoking ban? Uh-huh. If you wanted to have a decent cigar outside of home, and many places banned even that, you had to take a cruise around the city. I know. I’ve done it. Let the market handle that? Nah. Bloomberg preferred having city hall tell you where you could smoke.

The list goes on. But the main point here is, yes, he has a bit of conservative gloss to him. However, don’t be fooled. In relation to the rest of the country, Mike Bloomberg is a New York leftist.

And most of us live…in the rest of the country.
