Remember when Al Sharpton tried to run for president in 2004?
Yeah, me neither…
But someone who definitely still remembers is the Federal Election Commission because according to reports, Sharpton still owes more than $900k for his failed presidential run.
The Rev. Al Sharpton’s failed 2004 presidential campaign still owes more than $900,000. The unpaid debt of his committee, “Sharpton 2004,” has remained unchanged for a decade, according to its most recent FEC filing in March 2019.
The campaign has not filed any of its required disclosure forms since then, earning multiple letters of rebuke from the feds. “If committees are unable to pay debts, they can file a debt-settlement plan with the FEC . . . committees could not just decide not to pay,” a spokesman from the Federal Election Commission told The Post. The fact that Sharpton still owes this much money fifteen years later is pretty shocking considering he earns a pretty fat paycheck from MSNBC.
But these aren’t the only financial obligations Sharpton has shrugged off over the years.
Sharpton owed millions in back taxes to the IRS and has reportedly avoided paying for hotels, landlords, and travel agencies.
What a class act.
Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton is in the headlines again, but not for Ferguson or civil rights issues this time. A New York Times report [3] says that the now svelte Reverend and his for-profit businesses owe a chubby $4.5 million in state and federal taxes. It isn’t only the taxman that is not being paid, according to reports. Even worthy causes like hotels, landlords, and travel agencies are getting the cold shoulder from Mr. Sharpton or from his advocacy organization, the National Action Network [4]. [Forbes [5]]
How does this guy manage to make millions of dollars, but somehow avoid paying for things that any average American would be indebted to payback?
It must be nice to have all that privilege.
