Meghan McCain loses it when Joy Behar tries to defend Cuba’s literacy program: ‘Let’s not’

By PoliZette Staff | February 26, 2020

Chaos ensued on the ABC talk show “The View” once again this morning when Joy Behar tried to defend Cuba’s literacy program, which was too much for conservative co-host Meghan McCain to bear.

Behar was attempting to defend recent comments that were made by 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who had used Cuba’s literacy program to defend the regime of dictator Fidel Castro, according to Fox News [1].

“When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?” Sanders said.

Behar seemed to have no problem with his comments.

“I believe the literacy rate did jump quite a bit,” Behar said, causing an exacerbated McCain to respond, “Ok, let’s not. Let’s not.”

Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary described Cuba’s literacy initiative as a “re-education” program, questioning whether the people of Cuba were getting a “good dose of world history” under it.

“Do they get that here?” Behar asked, taking a clear dig at America’s education system.

Behar’s fellow liberal Whoopi Goldberg, however, was not having any of this.

“There’s no way around that. This is as bad as you-know-who saying there were good people on both sides–it’s the same thing,” Goldberg said, referring to comments Donald Trump made about racial protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.

While McCain agreed with her, Behar did not, saying, “I don’t agree.”

Sticking to her guns, Behar went so far as to seemingly downplay the threat the Castro regime poses.

“Fidel is dead, his brother will be dead soon,” Behar said. “The whole thing is going to change very soon.”

Even the left-wing co-host Sunny Hostin could not get on board, pointing out that this will likely hurt Sanders when it comes to the Latino vote.

“He’s saying these things and he’s this democratic socialist,” Hostin said. “That is not going to do well in Florida –a swing state– for that Latino contingent. I mean, they are not going to forgive him for this position.”

“It’s a dictatorship!” Goldberg responded. “There is nothing groovy about a dictatorship.”

Finally, Behar appeared to back down a bit, admitting that Sanders should have pointed out some of Cuba’s flaws.

“What he should be saying is yes, they learned to read but it’s an oppressive dictatorship that has zero percent growth, that the people have no mobility, upward mobility there,” she said, going on to add that the infrastructure in Cuba is “horrible” and that the “quality of life there is horrible.”

Liberals like Behar have become so obsessed with the idea of seeing Trump lose that they are willing to look past and even defend the radical socialist and communist ideologies of Sanders. It’s nothing short of terrifying that someone with Sanders’ political views is the current front-runner in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Should Sanders secure the nomination, you can expect more pundits than just Behar to start defending his radical policies. This is a clear reminder of why Trump needs our support now more than ever: America as we know it is at stake in this election.
