Like Pinocchio who only wanted to be a real little boy, for the longest time U.S. Democrats (say forty years if their actions and ideas tell the story) have strived mightily to be a real socialist party. Though they officially hid in the socialist closet for most of that time, lest voters know who they really were.

Their embrace of socialist doctrines in most spheres of government policy and retail politics got them real close to making the classic red grade. But it wasn’t until Saturday and the convincing win of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont in the Nevada caucuses that they really got their wish.

For if a socialist is the all-conquering front runner in a political party, then how can that party be anything but socialist?

The Democrat pros in DC are, of course, terrified of this. Not because of the threat socialism poses to the nation. Nah, they stopped worrying about that long ago or at least with the election of Obama in 2008.

Their current worry is the American people, whom they consider ignorant slobs not worthy of the enlightened glory of socialism, will not vote en masse to put a socialist in the White House. So they plan to stop him at around the third ballot of the convention with their 500 superdelegates.

But what if Bernie and his legions won’t play their game?

After they were robbed at the Philly Democratic Convention in 2016, they can smell a set up. Thus they will redouble their efforts to win in the primaries and they may pull it off. Big states are coming up and Bernie has proven he can win from New Hampshire to Nevada and win big.

At what point does the party take the advice of a 19th century English aristocrat to his bride on their wedding night, “Just lie back and think of England.”

It would be a natural phenomenon, a socialist candidate for a socialist party. And not just at the presidential level. AOC and her squads are challenging machine Democrats all over America. Hence the chances of the Democrats going socialist down ticket is increasing as well.

It’s been almost thirty years since the Christmas night in 1991 when the red flag came down over the Kremlin. Who’d have guessed it would be raised again in Nevada today?
