Bill Maher is a lot of things – a lot of rotten things – but he has a sense of loyalty and maybe a modicum of decency still left in him.
The outspoken HBO late-night TV host said that he will not be taking any pot-shots at Rush Limbaugh, who was just diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
While the two men are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, Maher recalls a time back in 2001, when Rush came to his defense over comments he made following the 9/11 attacks.

Here’s what Maher said that got him in trouble:
Less than a week after the World Trade Center attacks, the nerves of the general public were frayed, raw and very sensitive as we tried to recover from the horrors that played out that day. So when Bill Maher, on his former talk show Politically Incorrect, said, “We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That’s cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building? Say what you want about it…not cowardly,” the already ruffled feathers of a reeling U.S. populace got even more ruffled. Though the host issued an apology, the show never really recovered and was canceled the following June. Maher obviously came out of it with a better deal, moving to HBO where there are no advertisers to appease nor censors to skirt around. [PasteMagazine [2]]

And because Rush defended him, Maher is vowing he won’t attack Rush or make jokes about him in his darkest hours.
“Yes, I’m not a Rush Limbaugh fan,” Mr. Maher added. “He did some terrible things. But I’m not going to do jokes about that.”
Mr. Maher, 64, subsequently proceeded to recall how Mr. Limbaugh, 69, came to his defense amid facing criticism for remarks he made following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“He defended me after 9/11. Rush Limbaugh did. And I never forgot it,” Mr. Maher continued. “And maybe that’s — we could just pull back a little on the dead people and the sick people. How about that as a start? Everybody, what do you think? Let’s not be s–-ting on people who are not cold yet.” [Washington Times [3]]

Maher recently invited Trump-surrogate Steve Bannon on his show.
Bannon mopped the floor up with Maher.
If you haven’t watched the interview it’s worth viewing.
There’s been a long history of Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh defending one another.
It’s understandable – these are two men who have carved out their place in culture and politics by saying sometimes harsh, unpopular, and controversial things.
Keep praying for Rush.
