Trump Supporters Demand Mitch McConnell End the Impeachment Charade

By Sophie O’Hara | January 31, 2020

This impeachment charade has gone on long enough, but according to today’s announcement, it looks like it might stretch out into Wednesday.

According to reports, McConnell is caving to #NeverTrump senators and Democrats by agreeing to postpone the impeachment vote until Wednesday.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) huddled on the floor Friday afternoon before the Senate voted against calling additional witnesses during the trial. Schumer then left the floor while McConnell spoke to colleagues.

The Senate recessed following the vote, with senators in both parties expressing confusion about what will follow.

There was a “major discussion” among GOP senators at lunch on the trial endgame, Republican sources said. Republicans remained divided over how to wind down the trial, with several expressing dissatisfaction about dragging out the proceedings over the weekend or into next week, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Other Republicans wanted to wrap things up as soon as possible, a move leaders had telegraphed for days, so much so that the sudden change in their plans for the acquittal vote until next week caused a minor uproar during GOP lunch on Friday. [Politico [1]]

When you give the Democrats an inch, they take a mile.

You would think McConnell would be more hip to their delay tactics with the Kavanaugh bruhaha, but apparently not.

Many GOP senators are frustrated with McConnell’s decision to delay the vote, but no one is more upset than Trump supporters and many took to Twitter to voice their frustrations.

“Why in the world would Senate Majority Leader McConnell allow this Radical Dem assault on @realDonaldTrump and the nation to run through the State of the Union and go on Wednesday when he could wrap it up tonight or at least tomorrow? #MAGA #AmericaFirst #Dobbs”

“@senatemajldr Good Question!! Act now, Mitch! Shut it down now! USA has had enough of this circus act!”

“The whole goal is to have President Trump be still in hearings during his speech. Its just about trying to Stick it to Trump again becouse it happrbed to Clinton. The Witch is behind all of this. Thats why its a Witchhunt. She lost Thank God she did.”

“Grow some NADS McConnell.”

“Now vote to end this and get on with the work you were hired to do, you give Dems more time and they will invent more and more reasons to impeach, have you and the Republicans not learned anything from the #KavanaughHearings”

“@SenateGOP @senatemajldr @SenSchumer
Republicans need to end this trial. This needs to be over now. The Dems did not present a case with viable evidence to impeach the President. Get off your butts and get this done. It’s disgraceful, embarrassing and should never have happened.”

“Vote , aquit, end farce. By March dems will try something else to impeach him for. Never ending effort. Dems fail to do what we pay them for. @trish_regan @MariaBartiromo @Varneyco @senatemajldr”

This is yet another delay tactic by Democrats and will surely result in more “whistleblowers” and “witnesses” popping up before the Wednesday vote.

It’s also another tactic to try and tarnish Trump’s State of the Union address.

McConnell needs to grow a pair and hold this vote immediately, otherwise, this will keep going on and on.
