According to the Associated Press, the Coronavirus has already claimed the lives of 41 people and sickened at least 1,300 others since it originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
On Saturday, Canada announced its first case. The United States announced it’s first two cases last week. I hope they quarantine the consular staff wherever they land until they know they are not capable of spreading the disease.
The majority of the infections and all the deaths have been relegated to China’s mainland thus far, but a new case has sprung up in Canada, according to The Associated Press.
There is no vaccine to protect against the virus, although the National Institutes of Health had confirmed to Fox News that they were in the “early stages” of developing one, and officials are hoping a lockdown placed on 13 cities will help contain the virus from spreading further.
China’s leaders have made major efforts to contain the spread of the virus, including the immediate construction of a 1,000-bed hospital to accommodate the growing number of patients.
The hospital will be constructed out of prefabricated buildings to accelerate the timetable, according to state media. [Fox News]
I saw videos of people passing out in the streets. One poor man’s head hit the cement and was bleeding profusely. Men in hazmat suits came to pick up all of them. Hazmat suits that supply air. Folks this looks to be serious and it’s made its way to the United States. Protect yourselves.
We should have initiated our country’s pandemic plan yesterday. The World Health Organisation is a hyper-globalist behemoth – it’s slow to react just when we need to be decisive, nimble and fleet-footed.
Ebola was a deadly issue in lower populated areas that could be controlled, but a city in China is beyond concerning. Just lucky that their leaders actually show a bit of caring in response as they are not known humanitarians with their own people.
One thing for sure, China needs to get their act together and clean up these “wet” markets where it seems these outbreaks all originate. It is absolutely disgusting how filthy they are and no surprise diseases get a foothold there.
I wish people would be more responsible when they go to another country. They fly back and spread it, now in their defense they may not know they got it, but you need to be aware. I went into a store here and I saw a teenager go in with her Mom wrapped in a blanket slipper on and in pajamas. Why did she go in like that, stay in the car? It affects all of us.
If the virus is this serious, the US government sure doesn’t seem too concerned other than a travel restriction to the Wuhan area. Then again if travel is restricted, the economy will tank. It’s all about the money.
I just hope that China retracts its accusation of the USA deliberately importing this potentially deadly virus. We need to address the issue and not go down the conspiracy corridor. There is enough of that in American politics.
