President Donald Trump’s counsel sent a formal response to the Senate on Saturday after the president’s official summons was received, asking them to reject the articles of impeachment. President Trump and his attorneys make the claim that the first impeachment article, “alleges no crime at all, let alone ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors,’ as required by the Constitution.”

As for the second article of impeachment, two of his lawyers, Jay Alan Sekulow and Pat Cipollone, write that ignoring the House’s subpoenas were “legitimate Executive Branch confidentiality interests grounded in the separation of powers.”

As President Trump faces potential removal from his duly elected office for what Democrats spin as “interfering in our elections”, his lawyers opine out that the allegation itself would be considered interference in the 2020 U.S. elections–if we lived in a world where Democrats were held to the same standards they maintain for everyone else.

We also may hear opening arguments from the House Managers [2] and the White House lawyers early next week as well.
